On Government Shutdowns

It really is too bad that the federal government shutdown will probably be short-lived.  If I were confident it would continue indefinitely, I would start a business to replace the Food and Drug Administration today.  Unfortunately, if I did that, what would most likely happen is that the government, upon restarting, would shove me out of the market, claiming that it was the rightful provider of such services.

Oh well.  Here's to a long and fruitful shutdown, everyone.
